Edit Changing Face of Sighthill
THIS was Sighthill in 1965, as former industrial land was reclaimed to make way for a new housing scheme.
Famed for its industrial past, and home to the Tennant's Chemical Works, the work was marking a new beginning for the area.
After 18 months of building, the site became home to
the infamous high flats.
In the top left of the photograph is Sighthill Cemetery, and to the right, the new high flats in Royston.
What became the main road through Springburn to Kirkintilloch was crossed by the old Glasgow to Garnkirk railway line, the route which carried coal from the Monklands to factories in the north of the city.
